Eugene Darkroom Group collaborates with the Maude Kerns Art Center to provide classes through their education program in a variety of photography related areas. See our list of course offerings below. Scholarships are available!​

DARKROOM PHOTOGRAPHY PROCESSES

6 Hours Private Instruction + Independent Lab Time

This flexible and customizable course is designed for beginners with no previous experience in a black & white darkroom. In this individually scheduled, one-on-one course, an instructor will guide you through the basics of darkroom photography processes, adjusting the curriculum to focus on your goals within the medium. Topics covered include processing black & white film, contact printing, and enlargement printing in a black & white darkroom.

MANUAL CAMERA FUNCTION & SHOOTING BASICS

2 Hours Private Instruction* 

This course is available as an optional addition to “Darkroom Photography Processes,” for those who are interested in working in a darkroom but are unfamiliar with shooting on film. In this individually scheduled, one-on-one course, an instructor will guide you through the basics of manual camera function and shooting on black & white 35mm film to prepare you for the work in the darkroom. 

*Concurrent enrollment in "Darkroom Photography Processes" required.

ADVANCED DARKROOM PROCESSES

2 Hours Private Instruction* 

These customizable courses are for continuing education and developing proficiency with black & white photography and darkroom printing. In these individually scheduled, one-on-one courses, an instructor will guide you through the basics of your chosen topics, adjusting the curriculum to focus on your goals. Topics covered can include Processing & Printing Medium Format Film, Advanced Darkroom Printing Techniques, Digital Archiving of Film and Prints, and Finishing Prints for Presentation.

*Completion of "Darkroom Photography Processes" required

BLACK & WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY REFRESHER COURSE

3 Hours Private Instruction

This one-day session is designed for those who have had some previous experience in black & white photography, processing, or printing but have been away from it for some time. We will go through the process of black & white film processing and darkroom printing together as a refresher to these hands-on procedures. Participants must bring an exposed roll of film to work with for this class. All other materials for this course are included!*

INTRO TO BLACK & WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY

8 Week COURSE: SUMMER & WINTER SESSIONS

8 SESSIONS- 3.5 Hours Each (Lecture, Instruction & Independent Work-Time)

This introductory course is designed for beginners with no previous experience in black & white photography. Over the course of eight weeks, instructors will lead you through the basics of manual camera function and shooting, processing black & white film, printing in a black & white darkroom, and finishing prints for presentation. All materials for this course are included!**

3-4 HOURS (Lecture & Instruction)

We host a variety of alternative photography process workshops including cyanotype, lumen printing, anthotype, van dyke, bichromate gum printing, and more.
