SAME DIFFERENCE, 2022

Same Difference marks the 2022 iteration of Eugene Darkroom Group’s annual member’s show. This year’s exhibition featured new silver gelatin prints from 18 different artists, including Danger Adams, Ben Birkey, Caely Brandon, Miranda Cavagnaro, Jaden Chavez, Austin Dillon, Lisa Ertmer, Paul Halpern, Brenna Hansen, Elora Kelsh, Bridget Mahan, Brian Maneely, Elijah McFarlane, Diana C Patin, Miles Shepard, Carol Sillars, Adrienne Turner, and Seth Warhol-Streeter.

Member artists were encouraged to reflect on the idiomatic concept of “Same Difference” and the many ways that this phrase can be interpreted and expressed. All artists were restricted to the use of the exact same medium and materials, challenging them not only to look for differences in subject matter but to imagine ways these differences could manifest against the sameness of the final forms presented in the show.  In doing so, the individual pieces combine to form a conceptual exploration both on the nature of uniqueness in art and also the idea of persistence of self during times of extreme change.

The show was open for viewing at Dot Dotson’s Gallery February 3rd-28th. A second iteration was exhibited at Emerald Art Center, March 9th-April 1st.
